Job Requirements/Description

Historic Royal Palaces is the independent charity that looks after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, the Banqueting House, Kew Palace and Hillsborough Castle & Gardens.

About the role and about you

Kensington Palace’s Royal owners have shaped its transformation from the late 17th century to the present day. Now, in the 21st century, Kensington continues to provide a private home for modern Royals whilst allowing everyone to explore the stories of the people and families who have lived in this stylish palace in years gone by.

A vacancy has arisen in the Security Department at Kensington Palace for a seasonal Security Liaison Officer working with Historic Royal Palaces, the registered charity which looks after Kensington Palace, the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kew Palace, Banqueting House and Hillsborough Castle.

You will work closely with the Security Manager to provide a 5-star welcome and professional Security Liaison for Kensington Palace’s visitors, whether members of the public or people on business.

This is a varied role and will include elements of security work, being the primary first aider for the site as well as championing the delivery of a range of 5-Star reception services for the benefit of our visitors, such as facilitating the ingress and egress of vehicles of our visitors who have accessibility needs as well as being a banks person for all coaches, in addition to providing a warm welcome, information about the Palace, the issuing of visitor passes and a lost property reporting point. Furthermore, you will provide administrative support to the Security Manager in a range of areas.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge of basic security principles as well as proven, recent experience of delivering high quality reception services in a corporate or heritage environment. Evidence of skills development (Training, Courses) is also advantageous.

The role demands strong computer literacy skills (MS Office package, Outlook Email) as well as excellent spoken and written English. You will also be immaculately presented at all times in this vital role as a visitor’s first point of contact with HRP staff. It is also important that you can demonstrate the ability to work unsupervised and take ownership of your work area.

The role would ideally suit those with a track record in the security/reception industry who can demonstrate self-motivation, self-development, reliability and the ability to work as part of a varied team while ensuring that HRP’s many visitors are delighted with the service they experience while visiting one of the greatest Palaces ever built.
