Job Requirements/Description

An opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join our Advice Line team based at either Taunton or Yeovil. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £32,413 per annum plus 18% unsocial hours enhancement..

The advice line service operates over seven days, with shift patterns of 7am - 3pm, 9am - 5pm and 4pm – midnight. There may be an opportunity for remote working dependent on home location and IT set up, following induction and completion of the agreed probation period.

You will be part of a welcoming, community minded charity. Our mission is to provide excellent specialist palliative care for patients and support to their families. Everyone here contributes and has a part to play towards our goal. If you speak to any of our staff or volunteers, they will tell you how the patient is at the heart of everything they do. So, if you’re looking for a role where you can really make a difference, working as part of a supportive team, we could be a perfect match.

What can you expect to be doing?

Based within the Advice Line team, you will play a key role in supporting patients and their families in Somerset. Taking a variety of calls, you will triage each one to help provide essential end-of-life care and symptom control to those suffering with life limiting illnesses within their own homes.

You will provide tailored advice to patients and their families, helping them to navigate available support and signposting them across to the most appropriate services for their needs. Calls are received from a variety of sources, including health care professionals, and can be for symptom control management, emotional or psychological and carer support.

As well as covering the advice line, you will also visit patients within their own home.

In this community based role, you will work alongside the advice line team, community nurse specialists and other members of the multidisciplinary team. We support patients and carers within the Somerset area and who are registered with a Somerset GP.

What will you be good at?

You will:

  • Be a qualified, NMC registered Nurse
  • Bring a dynamic and problem-solving approach to this role
  • Have previous experience within palliative care
  • Weekend and bank holiday working is essential to this post.
  • As this role involves visiting patients in their own homes, the ability to drive is an essential requirement.

What can we offer you?

  • 33 days holiday including bank holidays rising to 35 days after 1 year, and increasing with length of service (pro-rata if part-time)
  • Recognise continuous service for clinical staff paid at band 5+ who join directly from the NHS or another hospice
  • Ability to buy and sell annual leave
